The 2022 Maximus is Hochkirch’s pinnacle estate Pinot Noir, sourced from mature vines in the cool Henty region of southwest Victoria. Biodynamically grown and naturally fermented with a portion of whole bunches, it combines vivid fruit, savoury depth and mineral energy with a fine, age-worthy structure.

Jennifer and John Nagorcka established Hochkirch in Tarrington in 1990. Their dry-grown vineyards have been farmed biodynamically for more than two decades and are certified under the Australian Demeter system. The fruit is hand harvested and naturally fermented, with minimal additions and no fining or filtration, producing wines that express the cool climate and distinctive soils of the family farm.

Tasting Note

Bright cherry, raspberry and plum are joined by aniseed, white mushroom, earthy beetroot and gentle smoky spice. The palate is silky yet structured, with lively acidity, fine tannins and a cool mineral line carrying the fruit through a long, savoury finish.

Serve lightly chilled with roast duck, mushroom dishes, game birds or aged cheese. It will reward a gentle decant now and has the structure to develop further in bottle.
