The 2023 Sailor Seeks Horse Pinot Noir is a finely detailed cool-climate wine from one of Australia’s southernmost vineyards in Tasmania’s Huon Valley. Hand harvested from traditional Tasmanian Pinot Noir clones and wild fermented with a small whole-bunch component, it combines vibrant red fruit, savoury complexity and precise natural acidity.

Producer

Sailor Seeks Horse is the project of Paul and Gilli Lipscombe, who began restoring their north-east-facing Huon Valley vineyard in 2010. Their isolated, cool-climate site is farmed without synthetic additions, while the wines are made with wild fermentation, gentle extraction and minimal intervention. The result is Pinot Noir and Chardonnay with clarity, texture and a distinct sense of Tasmania’s far south.

Tasting Note

Sour red cherry, raspberry and red plum are layered with native riberry, anise, smoked truffle and dried fern. Savoury notes of leaf litter, sea spray and gentle spice add complexity. The palate is airy and finely structured, with powdery tannins and a vivid sour-cherry acid line driving a long, mouth-watering finish.

Serve lightly chilled with duck, salmon, roast chicken or mushroom dishes. A short decant will help its aromatics and savoury detail unfold.
